Saladin, the animated series that is currently showing on Al-Jazeera Children's Network, is one animation you should watch.
Unbelievably made by Malaysians and initiated by MSC (Multimedia Super Corridor), this MDeC (Multimedia Development Corporation) production has won numerous international awards, the latest is the Tokyo Big Sight award at the Tokyo International Anime Fair 2007, the world's largest anime exhibition.
Saladin the Animated Series has also won an award in Best Technology category at the Seoul International Cartoon and Animation Festival (SICAF) on 30 May 2006.
I (and the rest of the LoLz team) went to Cyberjaya to see the production process of the above animation a few months ago, and got to see how they modelled, coloured, clothed, rendered and checked the animation series.
We entered this room (quite small, around half the size of our school hall) which looked like an office room. Computers were in every cubicle, with a medium-sized Wacom placed on each table. Some were working with Maya, some with Flash, and a few with PhotoShop.
On a larger table nearby was paper and a few boxes. I slipped out of the crowd, and approached the table to glance at the papers. There were scripts, there were drawings, scene plans. Amongst this was some eye-catching boxes. I looked at one which read "Adobe Creative Suite 3 Premium". Another read "Macromedia Flash MX". Oh, look, "Valve Orange Box" and "World of Warcraft". I turned around, to find myself staring at another man (who was staring at me). I gave him a confused look, he just smiled and looked back at his computer screen.
Anyways, why am I posting this?
Okay, I found an archive of the Saladin website. Now, if you go to the Saladin website, you'll get an error message.
Here's an archive of the 2006-version website.
You can watch the trailer of the movie version that will be coming... soon.
